Meeting An Online Friend

September 21, 2018  •  3 Comments

Have you ever thought about meeting someone you’ve developed an online (social) friendship with?  I recently discovered that I facilitated a friendship between two bloggers that I had forgotten about and they met up in the last couple of years.  I write about this today, because a photographer I know on Facebook reached out to me about a week ago and said he’s going to be in Connecticut in October.  He expressed an interest in getting together.  We’ve made plans to meet the first Wednesday in October.  I’m looking forward to showing him around the town I spent most of my life living in.

John and I met while in a photography group on Facebook and we developed a rapport, while working on a project together in that group.  We’ve stayed in touch over the last year commenting on each other’s content.  Some of what John photographs is similar to my own photography.  I’m also looking to watching how he sets up and what kind of equipment he uses.  It’s always educational to shadow another photographer just to see how they operate, especially when you’ve never met that person.  You have no preconceived notions and this will help one photographer show the other how they work.  I’m reminded of another time I met another friend for the first time.

Karen Stanford and I met up several years ago and I was able to show her some time saving techniques while in the editing process.

Hopefully John and I  will have some autumnal colors to take advantage of.  If not, I can still show him the waterfront, the beaches and some of the woods I so enjoy.  John’s going to be spending some time in Mystic, Connecticut and since I’m familiar with that area, I’ve already mentioned some locations he may like to scout out before visiting me:
Stonington Vineyards
Enders Island
B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill

Mystic Village

These are all within the range where he will be staying in Mystic.

In the meantime:
Focus on what's ahead of you.

I hope you and John have a wonderful time :) I've made a lot of friends online that I've then gone on to meet in person; I think that while it may have been a foreign concept 10 years ago, now that so many industries operate in the online space, it's become the new norm :)

Looking forward to seeing you.

I have met many of my online friends in REAL LIFE. I recommend it, as it enhances our two dimensional conversations dramatically.
