Strawberry Festival Report 2018

June 15, 2018  •  1 Comment

Last Saturday, was the first time I attended the Strawberry Festival as a photography vendor.  I did pretty good for my first time, selling a total of eight pictures.

Seven 11x14 mats (8x10 pictures)
One 16x20 frame (11x14 pictures)

Funny, how I wrote a few weeks ago with The Photo You Least Like that frequently it’s the photo you like least of all that attracts the most positive attention.  Well, I can say without hesitation that three of the seven photos that sold were some of photos I thought were horrible compared to where I am now.  Just proves again the adage:
that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I certainly wouldn’t agree with the clients that purchased the prints.  Happy that they liked my work enough to invest in the artwork.  What makes me happy as well is that most of my customers didn’t even know who I was.  It brings me great joy when I sell work to a complete stranger because they’re not trying to help me feel good about myself.  Whereas when someone I know buys something I used to feel like they were doing so to give me an ego boost.

I’m selling more at my outdoor events now that I’ve started taking credit cards.  I’ve been using Square for a few years now and it’s been a godsend.  I’d wanted to accept credit cards for some time because I KNEW I lost out on sales as many people don’t carry cash so much anymore, but most always have credit cards.  Square works well for me.  Any sales I make using it are directed to my business bank account typically the next day.  I recommend anyone looking to take credit cards for their small business to definitely look at Square.

I LOVE doing these outdoor events now, especially since I’m less than five minutes away from the Madson Green.  In fact, I have so much fun doing them that I’m going to do The Madison Lion’s Club Flea Market on June 23 and now that I take credit cards it makes it easier to be productive

In the meantime:
Focus on what's ahead of you.
