Can I Shoot Here and Sell My Photography?

A quick little column today but necessary I think for some of us:

Today’s blog comes to you because I’m planning a trip to Kykuit in September.  Kykuit is in the Hudson Valley.  I wanted to make sure that I could take photos for my website as that is one of the reasons I’m going.  I emailed and I did indeed receive permission to do so.

One very important thing to consider when going on a photography trip, especially if you are shooting at a park or a museum is to find out if you can sell what you photograph.  The last thing you want is to come home and upload your photos then later find out that you cannot show your photography publicly, let alone sell it.  This has happened to me.

Now before I make plans for a trip I contact the facility.

Mystic Seaport

Mystic Aquarium are two that do NOT let you show and sell photography that you take.

Make sure you check with the places you visit if you think there may be a problem.

In the meantime:
Focus on what’s ahead of you.
